Primary Years

Nurturing a Lifelong Love of Learning

(Ages 2–10 Years)

Imagine your child brimming with curiosity, eager to explore the world around them. At ISHCMC, we nurture this innate curiosity, believing that every child is a natural inquirer. We believe in fostering independence giving children a voice in their education, and encouraging them to become creative thinkers.

This approach, supported by our focus on inquiry-based learning, helps children connect topics to real-world applications. Our highly qualified and passionate teachers become mentors and guides, facilitating students inquiries, providing personalized support, and fostering a collaborative and inclusive community where children feel valued, respected, and inspired to learn.

Academic Life

Where curiosity meets academic excellence

In our Primary Years, students embark on an exciting academic journey that blends inquiry-based learning with structured instruction. Every day is a chance for our students to grow as thinkers, problem-solvers, and communicators. With a strong focus on collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking, we ensure that each child is empowered to explore their unique strengths while building the skills needed for success in the future.

Math Explorations

It's time for math! Today, we're planning a class fundraiser. We'll use budgeting and percentages to determine our costs and set our prices, and we might even survey our classmates to see what they'd like to buy. Just like businesses plan their operations, we're using math to make our fundraiser a success.

Discovering How the World Works

Today we’re exploring “How the World Works,” an exciting IB PYP theme, by investigating the water cycle with a tech-integrated twist! We’ll use tablets to explore interactive simulations of the water cycle, visualizing how water moves through different environments. We’ll then create our own digital presentations, using images, videos, and animations to explain the processes of evaporation, condensation, and precipitation. This blended learning experience combines hands-on exploration with digital tools to deepen our understanding of this essential process.

The International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP)

For Early Explorer – Grade 5

Your child will embark on a journey of discovery with the internationally recognized International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP). This inquiry-based curriculum is built around six engaging themes, encouraging your child to make connections across subjects and explore the world with a global perspective. Along the way, they’ll develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills – key strengths for success in today’s world.

The PYP connects learning to real-world contexts, inspiring a lifelong love of learning and preparing your child to be an active global citizen. Beyond textbooks, it builds lasting skills – communication, critical thinking, and collaboration – empowering them to navigate academics, careers, and life with confidence.

We believe in holistic education, with specialist instruction in areas such as P.E. and the arts, encouraging physical movement, creativity, and self-expression. Our bespoke wellbeing curriculum, POSISH (Positive ISHCMC), nurtures social and emotional wellbeing, teaching empathy, self-awareness, and resilience. Technology is seamlessly integrated as a tool for learning and inquiry, equipping your child with digital literacy. This balanced approach prepares your child to become an active and engaged global citizen.

Pathway to Secondary School: Preparing for a Bright Future

The PYP will provide your child with a strong foundation for success in our Middle Years Programme (MYP) (ages 11-15) and Diploma Programme (DP) (ages 16-18). The skills and knowledge they gain – inquiry, critical thinking, communication, and collaboration – will prepare them for the challenges and opportunities of secondary school and beyond.

Our dedicated transition program begins in Grade 5, giving students the chance to discover learning at our dedicated secondary campus, get used to their new campus and make newsome friends before they begin Grade 6.
