For all children, and particularly in the Early Years and Lower Primary, we believe that play is a natural catalyst for inquiry, where learning is playing and playing is learning. The Early Explorers Programme at ISHCMC emphasizes rich physical experiences, helping children develop essential cognitive and social skills. By fostering a love of learning from an early age, we prepare our students to become curious, resilient learners.

Each day at ISHCMC is designed with tailored learning experiences that foster curiosity and inspire our students’ creativity. Our distinctive schedule includes generous blocks of uninterrupted playtime, providing children the opportunity to develop new skills, expand their knowledge, and demonstrate their comprehension.

The IB Primary Years Programme at ISHCMC goes beyond preparing students for secondary education. Our aim is to cultivate energized, engaged, and empowered learners who are ready to contribute positively to the world.

Through an inquiry-based approach, our curriculum encourages students to question, wonder, doubt, speculate and generalize as part of their learning journey to construct meaning about the world around them. Students have the opportunity to explore significant local and global issues and are also encouraged to consider situations critically from multiple viewpoints.

This approach ensures a seamless transition to the Middle Years Programme (MYP), where students build on these skills with increased rigor and depth.

A Smooth Transition for Every Family

At ISHCMC, we ensure that parents are actively involved in every aspect of their child’s education. Through our online learning platform, SEQTA, you can track your child’s progress with regular updates, including photos, videos, and written reflections. We also invite you to join us for various events throughout the year, such as coffee mornings, celebrations and event days. Our vibrant parent-teacher group and close-knit community ensure every family is welcome and engaged.

Learning Principles

Our Principles of Learning—Challenge, Inquiry, Belonging, and Agency—ensure a well-rounded, rigorous education for every child every day. By fostering a supportive and engaging environment, we build on prior knowledge, accommodate individual abilities, and address personal, local, and global issues to motivate students and enhance their learning experience.

Individual Assessment and Feedback

Assessment is crucial for supporting students’ learning in the Primary Years Programme (PYP). We employ various assessments, from understanding checks in Early Education to diagnostic assessments in reading and mathematics across Kindergarten to Grade 5.

  • Authentic and Clear: Real-world relevance with transparent expectations.
  • Varied and Developmental: Multiple methods focusing on growth over time.
  • Collaborative and Interactive: Involves students, parents and teachers in an ongoing dialogue.
