At ISHCMC, we believe in fostering a dynamic and student-centered learning environment. This involves a continuous commitment to curriculum review, ensuring our educational offerings remain academically rigorous and reflect the latest best practices.
Review Cycles: Collaboration and Expertise
Regular curriculum reviews are essential to guarantee that our programs are current and meet the evolving needs of our students. As part of this process, we are delighted to welcome Tania Lattanzio, an experienced education consultant, from Monday, November 25th to Friday, November 29th, 2024.
Tania is a seasoned international educator with a wealth of experience in teaching, coordination, and management within the International Baccalaureate (IB) framework. Currently serving as the Director of Innovative Global Education, she works as an educational consultant worldwide. Ms. Lattanzio’s involvement in our upcoming professional development will be multifaceted.
Empowering Student Voice
Firstly, she will deliver a keynote address to the entire ISHCMC faculty, focusing on strategies to effectively incorporate student voice into our teaching and learning practices. By empowering our learners to take an active role in what they are learning, we keep students engaged and energized. Research consistently shows that fostering student agency leads to increased belonging, and ultimately, improved academic achievement.
Fostering Collaboration
Tania will also work with teachers and leaders across both our Primary and Secondary campuses. This collaboration aims to provide valuable consultative guidance to ensure seamless and progressive learning across subject areas, year by year, and across the IB program continuum.
Empowering Secondary Learning
Tania will also work extensively with our secondary staff. This collaboration will delve into two critical topics that align perfectly with the ongoing initiatives within the secondary school:
- Teaching and Learning Through Conceptual Understanding: This approach, central to our IB programs, emphasizes helping students grasp the big ideas and connections within a subject area. Ms. Lattanzio’s expertise will contribute to strengthening our implementation of this methodology.
- Continuous Assessment: The secondary school recently launched a new assessment strategy – continuous assessment. This initiative aims to provide students with a more balanced assessment calendar, allowing for more frequent and timely feedback. This feedback loop is instrumental in supporting continuous learning and growth and we are excited to incorporate Tania’s suggestions for implementing this.
We are confident that Ms. Lattanzio’s expertise will be instrumental in further enhancing our curriculum and fostering a thriving learning environment for all ISHCMC students.
