When most kids dream of stardom, they envision themselves dancing around their living rooms, perhaps imagining their own music videos. For Angelina Ho, an ISHCMC Grade 10 student, that dream became a reality. With the help of her school friends, and a talented director Thao Nguyen,  Grade 10 ISHCMC student Angelina Ho has made her dream come true, bringing to life her originally composed song “Say That I Like You” in a music video set at ISHCMC! 

Angelina shared that she first composed the song to perform at the end-of-year assembly in Grade 8. She shared “Although I have done many original composition performances in the past, my music was often overshadowed by other performances such as dancing and singing. As such, when the opportunity came for me to perform another one of my original songs, I decided to spread a rumour that the song was for my ‘crush’. As a result, it became extremely popular and many people urged me to release a full version. I exchanged the idea with my mom, who talked to one of our family friends – a talented director by the name of Thao Nguyen – about it, and we had some discussions where she connected me with a professional artist to help me with mixing, a studio, and her co-directors.”

Angelina hoped to use her music video as a chance to commemorate her middle school years at ISHCMC with her close friends. Throughout Grade 9, Angelina and her friends’ busy schedules meant the music video was pushed back until near the end of the 2023-24 academic year. 12 ISHCMC students were part of the video and Angelina also enlisted the help of some paid actors since some of her friends were camera shy. The students and production crew came together over a weekend at school to film the incredible music video in various locations around our secondary campus, highlighting innovative learning spaces such as art studios, the library, the gym, and the theater.
